影片讲述拥有超能力的山村所在剧团发生了一系列的怪异事件，贞子被剧团其他成员疏离猜疑，人生也因此变得愈发悲惨。贞子的母亲是拥有超能力的人，最终惨死。贞子也继承了母亲的超能力，从小生活坎坷，长大之后来到东京，在飞翔剧团打拼。在不久之后剧团花旦夜月爱子离奇去世，贞子取代了叶月爱子的位置，由于的诡异气质也遭受了其他成员的猜疑，只有负责音响效果的远山伯对贞子抱有善意，但渺小的善意是无法拯救贞子悲惨人生的。
贞子在取代叶月爱子位置之后倍受孤立，也迎来了一系列的事件，这些事件的发生也让贞子更加遭受冷暴力和忽视。
