《冒牌财神爷》是一部奇幻搞笑片。这部影片当中的财神爷是一个正在实习当中的实习生，只有帮助一个人类获得财富才能够成功转正，而所帮助的这个人类必须是个好人。其实这件事本身没有什么难度，但粗心大意的财神爷将自己的唯一一张财运符给到了一个小混混，这就使得他的转正之路充满了坎坷。
首先，这个小混混并不满足好人的这个前提；其次，一个实习生只有一张财运符，财神爷并没有其他的机会可以完成自己的最后一项任务。万般无奈之下，他只好硬着头皮帮助小混混发家致富。完成任务的第一步就是要改正小混混的脾气秉性，将小混混变成一个名副其实的好人。但由于财神爷来自于天上这个说法太过于荒唐，小混混并不相信，于是两个人之间展开了非常搞笑的故事。
