The film tells the unique and unusual emotional story between the housewife Margaret and the chimpanzee Max. Peter, a young diplomat at the British Embassy in France, was suspicious of his wife Margaret's frequent outings, so he hired a detective to investigate. It turned out that Margaret rented an apartment and went there often, most likely on dates with lovers. Peter storms into the apartment, only to find an adult chimpanzee with his wife. The chimpanzee roared in fright, but Margaret told Peter very frankly that it was called "Max". In desperation, Peter could only take Max back home to live with his wife, children and maids, but the relationship between his wife and the chimpanzee confused Peter.

Peter asks his wife again and again if he has had sex with Max, even bringing in street prostitutes from the street to test the chimpanzee reaction. Eventually, however, Peter also begins to care and like Max. At an important moment when the Queen of England visited Paris, Peter decided to take Max to the country hospital to visit Margaret.

"Max, my love" explores the strange relationship between humans and animals and the ins and outs of human nature through this unusual emotional entanglement. Complexity.
