故事发生在宫廷中，年幼的正德皇帝朱厚照（任贤齐饰）在深宫长大，对于虚假的宫廷生活感到厌倦。他借着皇太后安排的婚姻，偷偷穿越出宫，与史官司马西（罗家英饰）、指挥使陈珍珍（梁小龙饰）和太医一起化装游历江南小镇。在旅途中，他们意外卷入江南四大才子的赌局，不慎丢失了玉玺和银两。为了生存，他们参加了盛大的丐帮盛会，却在混乱中与司马西等人分离并失去了记忆。
失意的正德在一碗善面中结识了龙凤店的老板娘凤姐（徐熙媛饰），并被她雇佣为小二。同时，皇宫中图谋篡位的宁王得知正德失忆的消息，派遣手下限制正德只能待在龙凤店中。
