邱建邦（金城武饰）在女友自杀之前是个认真负责的凶杀组探员，可是自从女友自杀后，他变得一蹶不振，终日沉迷于酒精中。邱建邦的好友兼上司刘正熙（梁朝伟饰）背负着灭门仇恨，为了复仇，他娶了仇人的女儿金淑珍（徐静蕾饰），并凭借自己多年的破案经验设下一个天衣无缝的谋杀陷阱，成功杀死自己的岳父——曾经的仇人。金淑珍原本有个幸福的家庭，疼爱她的父亲，深爱她的老公，可是突然有一天，父亲被杀，而凶手极有可能是自己的老公，金淑珍向邱建邦求助。酒精没有让邱建邦的大脑变得迟钝，他在大家都被表面现象所迷惑时，依旧保持一份清醒，经过他的深入调查，他离真相越来越近。刘正熙的最终目标是杀死金淑珍，并且继承她的三亿家产，于是他再次设下陷阱，可是他没想到多年的朝夕相处，他已经对金淑珍动了真情，这一次他的计划能成功吗？邱建邦能够阻止他吗
