《热带往事》讲述在上个世纪90年代的一个炎热的夏天，发生了一起因为停电而被隐藏的命案，有三个人因此被卷入案件当中，他们的命运也就此发生改变，开始了长达二十年的纠葛。在南方一个炎热的夏天夜晚，王学明却遭遇一场意外，梁妈妈的劳工忽然间失踪，她请求当地警方的帮助，却不知道自己已经成为凶手标记的下一个目标，彼时的陈警官正在负责老梁的失踪案件，逐渐发现这起案件的事态发展已经远远超出自己的意料，且没有意识到自己的命运已经发生改变，他们正在一点点向着杀人凶手设计好的陷阱中跳进
