影片里面一只叫Red的红犬生活在澳大利亚西北部的铁矿上，约翰（乔什·卢卡斯 Josh Lucas 饰）救了它一次之后，就被Red当做自己的主人，他们在矿上和谐的生活着，有一天约翰在矿上喜欢上了秘书（瑞切尔·泰勒 Rachael Taylor 饰），两个人沐浴爱河，感情稳定，于是两个人很快就决定订婚，但是在订婚的当天约翰在前往订婚地点的发生了意外，他出车祸并且当场死亡，从此离开了人世。Red为了寻找自己的主人，便开启了寻主人之路，它走遍了整个澳大利亚，还跑到日本去找自己的主人……
