19-year-old Yasuoka Kunihiko is a young man who loves painting and has successfully entered the art department of the university. However, his life was in trouble due to an accident. After the sudden death of his mother, he suffered a huge blow in his innocence. Just then, Takeuchi Tetsuo, a middle-aged man who runs a coffee shop, appears. He runs a coffee shop on the edge of the Dotonbori River and feels deep sympathy for Kunihiko's experience. To help the young man, Tetsuo pays for the burial of Kunihiko's mother and leaves him to help in the store

Tetsuo's son, Zhengfu, is obsessed with billiards and gambling. The relationship between their father and son was tense because of this. However, after Bangyan's appearance, Tetsuo regards Bangyan as his own son and takes good care of him. At the same time, Zhengfu fell into the quagmire of gambling, getting deeper and deeper.

One day, Kunihiko met the graceful Machiko while sketching on the bridge. This wonderful encounter has become an incredible fate between them.

The movie "Dotonbori River" is adapted from one of Teru Miyamoto's "River Trilogy", based on the novel of the same name. The film shows the collision of youth and warmth, and describes the interweaving and interaction between people of different ages, backgrounds and life stages.
